Requirements of the role

As the UK representative embedded within the European Network Manager area you will be the UK representative leading on the integration of space activity and high-altitude operations within EuroControl.

 

Working closely with CAA Airspace Regulation, CAA Space team, NATS, MoD and the DfT, you will be a critical bridge between the UK and EuroControl.  You will be primarily focused on shaping and enabling the delivery of commercial Space operations within the UK and across Europe. In addition to this you will support the development, coordination and delivery of high-altitude operations and other modernising airspace concepts, providing a critical link into UK airspace development and airspace modernisation strategy.

 

As a CAA airspace representative within EuroControl, you will focus on the effectiveness of our partnerships with other States. As this is a new role you will be required to work independently to identify, develop and maintain effective working relationships with industry experts, national and international regulatory bodies and government officials. In addition to this you will support the UK in developing the direction of policy and provide key stakeholders with advice and guidance

 

Whilst focusing on the Space related matters, you will be required to represent the UK on various working and strategic planning groups, across a range of related subjects. Delivering on varied specific tasks connected with space, high-altitude and broader airspace matters.

 

Ideally you will have a technical background, with a good understanding of complex airspace processes and how the European airspace system operates. You will have a proven ability of being able to work within a political or international environment, effectively influencing outcomes and developing win-win scenarios.

 

This role is based in Brussels with a minimum requirement of travel to UK once a month for inface meetings. Relocation package will be discussed upon successful interview.

 

Core Accountabilities

 

  • UK representative within the Network Manger area of EuroControl, supporting the development and integration of Space launches into the European region and influencing the development of national Policy.
  • Supporting the development and integration of UK Space launch activity into the North Atlantic Region.
  • UK representative within the Network Manger area of EuroControl supporting the development and integration of Higher Altitude Operations within the European region and influencing national Policy.
  • Supporting wider UK airspace related work within EuroControl, ensuring coordination and alignment with the ongoing airspace oversight and modernisation activities
  • Liaising and coordinating with other agencies, regulatory bodies, NATS, DfT, MoD and UK CAA teams ensuring effective communication flow and creating an enabling environment to support Space launches, Higher Altitude Operations and other airspace modernising activity, as required

 

About You

 

Essential – The job holder will need to have:

 

  • Experience of ATM operations in UK airspace with an excellent understanding of European airspace and Network Manager functions
  • Be able to rapidly establish personal credibility with both technical specialists and non-technical senior officials, developing constructive relationships and influencing outcomes
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with a proven ability to quickly grasp both complicated and complex arguments, identify salient points and develop proposals
  • Be an excellent communicator with good negotiation skills and a proven ability to influence and support development of complex policy work
  • Have high levels of commitment, reliability, and flexibility, able to work and lead both within multi-functional teams or work independently when required
  • Be innovative and able to develop novel solutions, based on expert knowledge and detailed understanding of ATM and aviation law principles
  • Have awareness of national and international ATM regulatory bodies and their interactions

 

Desirable – The jobholder will:

 

  • Have an understanding of International Space law and or Space industry experience
