We have an opportunity for a Data Analyst to join our Data Strategy Team within Sector Performance Directorate.

We are Ofwat, the Water Services Regulation Authority, a non-ministerial government department responsible for regulating the water sector in England and Wales.

The Data Analyst role sits within the Data Strategy team within the Sector Performance directorate. The Sector Performance directorate supports Ofwat’s objective to be an assertive voice in strategic and investment decision-making for the sector, working with other regulators and governments by shaping the future direction and transformation of the sector through alignment with government and other stakeholders, and leading innovation.  The Directorate drives up sector and company performance by regularly, visibly, and proactively challenging companies on their performance, using data and operational expertise.

Job description
The Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join our expanding Data Strategy team as part of our plans to upgrade and modernise our data platform through our dedicated programme – Programme Ocean.

The Data Strategy team within the directorate is integral to Ofwat’s vision and strategy for the sector, leading on the data strategy and on providing high quality insights into sector and company performance. The Data Strategy team seeks to shape how data is used through the delivery of the data strategy, providing teams with practical solutions that result in efficiencies, enhanced visibility & access to data as well as effective decision making & insights. They also lead on the development of a new data platform.

This is a great opportunity to work with leading cloud technology and help change the way data is used in the public sector. We have embarked on an ambitious data modernisation programme using modern and evolving technology, to maximise the value of data and insights to Ofwat.

Key deliverables:

In this role you will be expected to:

Deliver data projects to improve consistency in the way data is used across Ofwat and the sector more widely, supporting comparative regulation and robust analysis.
Help to embed new technology and tools across the organisation to make better use of our data and ensure the right people with the right skills are in place to use these.
Carry out analytical projects with colleagues across Ofwat to provide insights on regulatory and other data for the wider organisation
Engage with teams internally and across the sector to build strong working relationships to understand how data is being used.
Combine data analysis and wider intelligence from a range of internal and external sources to produce analytical outputs to promote data driven decision making.
Work with the Ocean project team to design and implement processes for collecting, managing, and storing data, and for making this available for analysis, championing best practice in managing and using data
Develop and maintain strong relationships across the organisation, to promote the work of the team and find opportunities for collaborative working, including through existing data networks and forums.
Support the assessment of data skills and capability across the organisation, identifying gaps and helping to develop a community of skilled users who understand best practice and are able to make best use of our technology and data.
