Office of Rail and Road
We work to promote competition for the benefit of consumers across all sectors of the UK economy, https://www.orr.gov.uk/vacancies
Requirements of the role
This role can be based at any of our office locations: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, York, Glasgow. At ORR we have adopted hybrid working and are currently expected to work from a workplace location for a minimum of two days per week or 40%.
ORR’s Periodic Reviews & Monitoring team sits within the Economics, Finance and Markets (EFM) Directorate. The directorate leads ORR’s work on the funding of railway infrastructure in Great Britain, financial and economic analysis within ORR, and ORR’s competition work. The team’s focus is on the funding process for the railway infrastructure and assessing how Network Rail is delivering against its commitments. We work closely with colleagues across ORR, as well as with governments, Network Rail and other stakeholders.
As a Regulatory Planning Lead on an 18 month fixed term contract, you will play a key part in preparing for the next funding process for the railway infrastructure in Great Britain. The next funding process will determine what the railway is expected to achieve during the five years from 1 April 2029 and the level of funding available for the infrastructure.
You will have a unique opportunity to be a part of making the UK Government’s vision for the railway a reality, with plans for Great British Railways to take on Network Rail’s responsibility for the railway infrastructure in England & Wales alongside running many of the passenger services on the railway network. You can read more about the government’s plans for the rail industry in its consultation response.
