Requirements of the role
We are seeking a hardworking and proactive Assessment Officer to join the Contact and Assessment Team (CAT) at the BSB. CAT is responsible for assessing all incoming new information (such as reports about barristers) in order to determine what, if any, regulatory action is potentially necessary and what team within the BSB is best suited to deal with the matter.
Assessment Officers are responsible for assessing incoming information and taking decisions on whether matters should be referred for consideration of enforcement, supervision, or other types of regulatory action. The post holder is expected to hold a range of cases of varying complexity and progress those within agreed timescales. The post holders will also contribute to the team’s handling of general enquiries received by email and by telephone.
Given the breadth of legal issues the team considers, the successful candidate will have a good understanding of the legal system in England and Wales. An advantage would be a background in either family or employment law. The successful candidate also will have a law degree or equivalent experience. The role may be suited to a qualified solicitor or barrister, or other legal profession however this is not essential. They will additionally have demonstrable experience in managing a high-volume caseload. Experience of working within professional regulation is desirable. They will have the ability to draft high quality correspondence that is clear and concise.
