Requirements of the role
Join The Pensions Regulator as Operational Business Manager, guiding and supporting the leadership team of Evidence and External Risk in delivering strategic, risk-based, evidence, research and pension insights to shape regulatory outcomes. Reporting to the Director of Evidence and External Risk, you’ll drive forward the agenda and business priorities for the three teams and shape cross-functional projects to ensure that E&ER deliver high quality, on-time support to the pensions and regulatory landscape.
The role demands a broad understanding of pensions and strategy and how we leverage this in the evidence and risk areas. The role also requires someone with excellent organisation skills, ability to interact across senior leadership and the ability and willingness to challenge senior members of staff.
This is a pivotal role for someone passionate about protecting savers and shaping the future of pensions regulation and in delivering the evidence and risk basis for our work.
The role criteria
- Extensive operational management experience including demonstrable experience in setting priorities, goals, objectives, identifying risks, mitigations and timescales.
- Strong track record of leading or steering cross functional and complex work programmes including budgeting, planning, resourcing and setting and delivering good outcomes.
- Broad understanding in UK pensions, including defined benefit schemes and defined contribution, investment, investment, funding, trusteeship, administration and governance and understanding of how to shape strategy is essential.
- Very strong written and verbal communication skills, producing and using reports to gain support for key messages and to help in senior decision making. Having the confidence and experience to effectively and sensitively review the work of other, often more senior colleagues.
- Positive and flexible approach. A self-starter with proven ability to foster collaboration, innovation, quality assurance, continuous improvement and implementing improvements as and when needed.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, including at senior and executive levels.
