At Ofgem, robust economic evidence sits at the heart of decisions that affect millions of energy consumers, and we’re seeking a Senior Econometrician to strengthen how we use data to understand markets and shape policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use statistics and econometrics to understand patterns in large, granular datasets, and support other ORE functions including evaluation, competition, teams analysing distributional impacts and economic drivers within the data
  • Advise on and conduct a wide range of approaches including experimental, quasi-experimental and other related quantitative methods
  • Source, process and develop data products to and raise awareness for better use and take up
  • Own, manage and analyse granular data sets on consumer and supplier behaviour, pricing and outcomes
  • Using these granular data sets, provide both rapid analysis and insights in response to urgent market questions, and also contribute to longer term research pieces for policy teams
  • Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with regulatory teams

  • Analysis and maintenance of granular data sets to answer policy questions
  • Insights, reports and data visualisations
  • Enable access to new and valuable data sources
  • Educational initiatives to increase awareness of the data insights team

Person specification

Essential Criteria
  • Strong econometric skills alongside other analysis skills: hypothesis development, coding in R and/or Python, data visualisation, telling a story with data (Lead Criteria) 
  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills including the ability to elicit, understand and act on Policy’s research priorities (Lead Criteria) 
  • Track record of leading and initiating new and innovative data initiatives, demonstrating value and bringing others with you
  • Strong track record of delivering robust analysis accurately and on time
