Requirements of the role

Are you interested in managing a team at the forefront of international investigations, and advising on a range of difficult, complex and often high-profile legal issues?

The team/department

Law & International is a team of around 16 lawyers and business support, which sits within Enforcement Legal in the FCA’s Legal Division.

The team advises Enforcement on its approach to international investigations, whilst also assisting overseas authorities investigating misconduct with a UK element.

We represent the FCA at IOSCO, where we use our international standing to drive enhanced international collaboration. We also hold extensive relationships with international partners and host the FCA’s annual International Enforcement Symposium.

What you will be doing

  • Lead the team as it delivers on its strategy to strengthen the FCA’s ability to tackle cross-border misconduct
  • Take responsibility for the consistent and high-quality nature of legal advice provided by the team, and to sign off on the most high-risk legal decisions
  • Ensure the team is properly organised and has the appropriate resource and processes to deliver its core responsibilities – including responding to the high volume of requests for assistance that the team receives from overseas regulators – and to ensure effective progression of projects
  • Manage the performance and career development of the team, both directly and through others
  • Be a role model for the team and manage the team in an open and inclusive way, with a strong focus on training and knowledge sharing
  • Support the Head of Department and be part of the departmental leadership team to further the strategic management of the Department and the Division
  • Build strong networks throughout the FCA to ensure that the FCA takes a consistent and considered approach to international issues
  • Maintain and strengthen relations with key international counterparts to ensure we maintain FCA/UK influence and continue to influence decision-making in a way that is favourable to FCA/UK interests
  • Act as representative of EMO at international level, where appropriate, to ensure that the FCA’s interests are effectively represented
  • Regularly engage with senior management to report on the work of the team and inform decision-making on key international issues
