Investing for Growth: how can regulators better support investment?
UKRN is delighted to be working with the Global Infrastructure Investor Association (GIIA) to organise a roundtable for investors and regulators, to be held at the offices of Herbert Smith Freehills in London.
This roundtable will be co-chaired by Jon Phillips (CEO, GIIA) and Chris Hemsley (Director, Fingleton) and will explore how regulation can better support investment and contribute to the Government’s growth agenda. The discussion will focus on key themes such as regulatory barriers to investment, international best practices, building trust, and aligning investor expectations with regulatory frameworks, based around the four framing questions below:
- Investment climate: Where are the major sources of investment capital globally, and what types of investment opportunities are they looking for, in terms of balancing risk and reward? How does the UK compare with other jurisdictions in offering such opportunities?
- Growth-focused investment: How can we ensure that we are prioritising the investment opportunities and addressing the barriers that will make the biggest contribution to UK economic growth?
- Regulatory barriers to investment: What barriers to investment do we see within the UK’s regulatory system today? Are there other countries that investors and/or regulators should be looking to, to identify best practice?
- Consistency and transparency: What are investors’ perceptions of the consistency and transparency of UK regulatory approaches to cost of capital (and associated price control decisions)? How could this be strengthened and/or improved?
