Get to know the UKRN Team – Carey-Ann (CJ) Jacques
Have you ever wondered who the UKRN team are? Well, it’s probably about time we introduced ourselves! Over the coming months, we will continue to share a little insight into each of the UKRN team members (don’t worry, there is only 8 of us!). We’ve asked each of the team to answer a few questions about themselves, UKRN and regulation of course!
Previously, we’ve had Kev Smith, Attricia Archer and Charley Grady-Pearce but our next team member in the spotlight is Carey-Ann Jacques.
- Tell me a bit about yourself
I have a genuine desire to help others and make a positive impact on the community and environment around me. Working at UKRN has enabled me to compress my hours and volunteer weekly at a local Trussell Trust Foodbank, and for several Christmases I have also volunteered for Crisis at Christmas. To celebrate my birthday in 2023, I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s tallest mountain and the world’s highest free-standing mountain at 5,895m high) and raised funds for Cruse Bereavement Support in the process.
- What attracted you to UKRN?
Getting closer to regulation and becoming more involved in the process of regulation evolution.
- What achievement has given you the most pride in your career? And also in your time at UKRN?
Planning and delivering the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic arrivals and departure operation at Gatwick Airport. ‘Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter‘. The best example of work place team work that I have ever witness.
At UKRN delivering the Cost of Capital Methodology paper. I am so proud of the talent and commitment from the task force involved, who worked together to deliver an original and collaborative solution.
- What 3 words best encapsulate regulation for you?
Conscience, Equality, Safeguarding
- What 3 words best describe you away from the day job?
Considerate, Creative, Adventurous
- What is your favourite film and why that choice?
Guardians of the Galaxy – just for the great soundtrack.
- What 3 countries/places have you enjoyed visiting the most and why?
- Scotland – I lived in Edinburgh for a few years, Ben Nevis was the first mountain I climbed.
- Tanzania – I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and the Tanzanian culture is beautiful.
- Italy – my favourite go-to country in Europe, great food and wine, great weather and great people.
- What advice would you give to your younger self?
Not everyone will like you – but that’s ok – champagne is not everyone’s cup of tea! Be smart, be brave and be true to yourself.
- When your career is nearing completion or you get to retire – what 3 words would you like your career to be remembered by?
Impactful, Colourful and Honest
We really hope you enjoyed getting to know CJ more. Look out for our next featured team member shortly!
