Get to Know the UKRN Team – Nicole Trinder
Have you ever wondered who the UKRN team are? Well, it’s probably about time we introduced ourselves! We’re close to concluding our series that has shared insights into each of the eight UKRN team members before moving on to a new aspect of UKRN.
As before, each of our team members were asked to answer a few questions about themselves, UKRN and regulation but in this article, we are featuring Nicole Trinder!
- Tell me a bit about yourself
I joined UKRN in 2020, having enjoyed a diverse career across a variety of sectors, most recently as a learning and development adviser in health and social care, working as part of a team upskilling a workforce supporting adults with learning disabilities and mental health considerations. In addition to supporting the UKRN team and assisting with the logistics of running a large number of networks, I also facilitate corporate services networks, including the COOs, IT Directors and HR working groups.
Having spent my formative years growing up in Australia, I’ve developed a love of sunshine, the great outdoors and travel, which I’ve always encouraged others to do. Travel provides the most amazing experiences in life, taking you out of your comfort zone and into other people’s worlds which can be profoundly different and very enriching.
As an avid dog lover, enjoy daily walks with Tiff, our very energetic 10 year old Springer Spaniel, who loves muddy walks and playing with her favourite toys!
- What attracted you to UKRN?
The appeal of joining UKRN was learning about the world of regulation and working to support a large number of regulators, which I felt would be really interesting and varied, plus an 8 minute scenic walk along the river to the office was a real bonus!
- What achievement has given you the most pride in your career? And also in your time at UKRN?
One of the highlights of my career was when working at J P Morgan, project managing a pilot of an electronic calendaring system across multiple time zones, which resulted in the software successfully rolled out to over 13,000 staff globally.
At UKRN, I would say supporting the team through Covid lockdowns and the immense change in our work environment, for the team and our members. Going from predominantly face to face meetings to 100% hybrid presented a lot of rapid change, adapting to home working and ensuring that tech was in place, to support management and planning of our busy meeting schedule.
On a personal note, the past few years I’ve been very proud to see both my children graduate from University.
- What 3 words best encapsulate regulation for you?
Consumer protection, fairness, transparency.
- What advice would you give to your younger self?
Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, take time out to indulge in the things that you really enjoy.
It’s also important to mix things up so each day, do something in a different way as even the little changes can have a big, positive impact on your life. If nothing more, it’s a learning experience.
- What is your favourite film and why that choice?
The movie that I most look forward to watching is Forrest Gump, full of humour, sadness, action and drama. Forrest always sees the good in people and shows us that life isn’t as bad as it may seem, that we can be successful in life, if we just keep trying.
- What 3 countries/places have you enjoyed visiting the most and why?
- Australia – god’s own country. It’s immense and beautiful with a hugely diverse landscape, especially love the ruggedness of the Flinders Ranges and to contrast, the Whitsunday Islands is as close as you can get to paradise.
- Grindelwald, Switzerland – stunning scenery dominated by the ‘three sisters’ of Swiss mountains – the Eiger, Jungfrau and Monch. Great for summer and winter holidays.
- Palm Springs, USA – the aesthetic beauty of the modernism architecture, contrasted with the backdrop of desert and mountains is spectacular, can highly recommend the early morning horse trek through the palm-fringed valleys, just gorgeous.
We really hope you enjoyed getting to know Nicole more. Look out for our next featured team member shortly!
