Communications Planning Senior Associate

Payment Systems Regulator

Payment systems are always evolving and the PSR is here to make sure they work well for everyone, https://www.psr.org.uk/about-us/jobs-at-the-psr/

Requirements of the role

This is an important new role at the PSR with day-to-day oversight of our communications and engagement planning activity.

Effective communications and engagement is at the heart of what we do.

Developing our stakeholder relationships and communicating effectively is core to the PSR having an impact and delivering payment systems that are accessible, reliable, secure and value for money.

That’s why the core purpose of this role is to make sure the PSR’s communications and engagement work is delivered in a way that maximises its positive impact.

The role will make sure we plan ahead, properly consider the audience/stakeholder, have strong messaging, and – most importantly – our work supports the delivery of our Strategy.

This person will work hand-in-hand with colleagues across the PSR and make sure they are fully plugged into what’s happening and when, which in turn means they can give excellent advice on how we may need to communicate.

This role is therefore quite ‘horizontal’ in nature, working across a large number of pieces of work from inception advising on approach, message, audience and alignment.

Close working with our Project Management Office, which owns and curates project plans for all major PSR pieces of work, will be essential.

As well as working horizontally, this person will also provide briefings to and advise senior colleagues leading projects and our Executive team.

They will also play a key role in ensuring our stakeholder engagement strategy is implemented – which is critical to ensuring that the PSR has the open and constructive relationships we need with stakeholders.

This person will need to challenge and inspire colleagues as they encourage and role model the importance of thinking ahead about communications and engagement.

This will therefore be a high profile and role, where positive relationships, a proactive and ‘can-do’ attitude, and accountability are essential attributes.

This role reports into the Strategic Engagement Manager and sits alongside two other senior associate colleagues that cover Events and Visits, and Stakeholder Engagement.

As a team, your focus is on ensuring the PSR is saying the right things, to the right people, at the right time, using the right channel or medium.

Given the strategic nature of the role you will also work closely with the Senior Manager Head of Communications and Engagement on the team’s strategy and focus.

The Communications and Engagement Team is part of the wider Strategy Analysis and Engagement division, led by Dan Moore. This person will work with colleagues across the division to ensure it remains a supportive and high performing division.

You will be part of a team of four.

Key audiences and stakeholders

A key audience for this role is PSR colleagues – supporting them to plan their communications and engagement activities well. However, because this person will need to understand what’s on the to-do list of our external stakeholders, there is an important external facing element to this position too

  • Internal: colleagues, the executives, and board. Internal engagement will primarily involve working with colleagues and supporting them their teams to plan and strategize their engagement well.
  • External: payment system operators; payments and banking industry organisations and their trade bodies; retailers and businesses that use payments systems; consumer and user organisations; fintech and big tech; other regulators and authorities; and (working with the Strategy Team) international stakeholders.
