We are currently recruiting for the Competition Enforcement team within the Competition Directorate (CD). CD leads the FCA’s competition mandate and much of our work is focused on ensuring markets work well for consumers.

The team seeks out and sifts information from many sources, aiming to detect, deter and terminate anticompetitive conduct that infringes the Competition Act 1998 (CA98). We work closely with colleagues across the FCA (in Supervision, Policy or Enforcement, and advisory lawyers in the Legal Division). We engage other authorities such as the Competition Markets Authority (CMA)and reach out to industry to promote compliance with competition law.

 

What will you be doing?
You will be a key member of the team, supporting the managers in developing team strategy. You will drive key pieces of work, which could include formal CA98 investigations, pipeline CA98 cases, digital issues, engaging and collaborating with the CMA and government in relation to the UK legal framework and/or working on market studies, policy or strategy projects.

You will play a key role in delivering against the team’s core responsibilities by:

  • Supporting the managers in planning project delivery, tracking deliverables and overseeing the activity of the team
  • Line and/or work-managing colleagues, guided by the managers and coaching and developing more junior members of the team helping to motivate, set direction, plan and push forward high-quality performance
  • Influencing, developing and supporting the team, department and directorate’s strategy, helping to define priority outcomes and measures of success, using your judgement to advance the FCA’s objectives and presenting on behalf of the team
  • Driving the team’s relationship with its key external stakeholders, e.g., government, the CMA and the UK Competition Network of other concurrent regulators
  • Advising the team on the FCA’s use of its powers and how competition could be strengthened in consumers’ interests, sharing knowledge actively across the team and acting as an escalation point for the team with regard to complex issues
  • Working alongside other professionals in a multi-disciplinary environment, gathering and reviewing information on markets and firm behaviour from a range of sources
