Data Protection Assistant


Requirements of the role

The Data Protection Assistant will join a newly formed Information Management Department within the Bar Standards Board. The post holder will provide administrative support to the Data Protection Team’s work, covering subject access, other requests relating to data protection rights, and freedom of information requests.

Key responsibilities the postholder will undertake:

  • Responding to data protection inbox queries, providing accurate, timely information.
  • Liaising with various BSB teams to gather data to prepare responses to subject access requests.
  • Issue responses to subject access requests and Freedom of Information requests.
  • Carrying out draft redactions of subject access requests, interpreting information and applying exemptions to ensure data provided is compliant with legislation.

Key skills and experience required to undertake the role include:

  • Data Protection Foundation level certificate
  • Practical experience of working in a data protection environment/role
  • Experience in handling Subject Access and Freedom of Information Requests
  • Practical experience of working to tight deadlines
  • Understanding of the confidentiality issues associated with handling personal, confidential and special information
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation
