Office of Rail and Road
We work to promote competition for the benefit of consumers across all sectors of the UK economy, https://www.orr.gov.uk/vacancies
Requirements of the role
We’re looking for a Head of Health and Safety Policy to be based at any of our office locations: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, York, Glasgow. At ORR we have adopted hybrid working and are currently expected to work from a workplace location for a minimum of two days per week or 40%.
ORR’s Railway Safety Directorate (RSD) ensures duty-holders in the railway industry manage health and safety risks effectively and comply with their statutory duties.
Our close-knit, professional and supportive team brings together policy, analysis and industry insight to strengthen how rail safety is managed across Britain. We work collaboratively across ORR and with external partners to turn complex issues into clear, practical policy solutions. We are also responsible for the delivery of GB’s statutory train driving licence regime.
You’ll set and steer the policies that shape the health and safety of Britain’s railways. You’ll turn evidence and insight into practical, system-wide change—working with government, industry and international partners to deliver a safer, healthier railway for passengers, workers and the public. Join us and use your leadership to influence decisions that matter, drive national impact, and help shape the future of rail at a pivotal moment for the sector.
