Requirements of the role

This role can be based at any of our office locations: London, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, York or Glasgow.

We are recruiting for a Litigation Officer to join Railway Safety (RS).

ORR is the health and safety regulator for all of Britain’s rail industry. One of ORR’s  strategic objectives is to enforce the law and ensure that the industry delivers continuous improvement in the health and safety of passengers, the workforce and public, by achieving excellence in health and safety culture, management, and risk control.

As part of our Regulatory Improvement Team, working with our Investigation and Enforcement Manager and other RSD colleagues, you will play a significant role in ensuring investigations and enforcement action are dealt with in a professional and timely manner.

You will provide a dedicated expert support service to investigating inspectors and legal advisers to improve the efficiency of our investigations, delivering high quality investigation case documentation and maintaining meticulous records of investigation material and evidence to the required legal standards.  You will be expected to proactively support Inspectors during their investigations, allowing operational staff to focus on the investigation and evidence collection. You will be responsible for assisting and establishing a process to ensure an efficient handover of high-quality investigation cases, to the Legal team, who will prepare the case to court and subsequent prosecution.

At ORR we have adopted hybrid working and are currently expected to work from a workplace location for a minimum of two days per week.
