Requirements of the role

Do technology and cyber resilience issues interest you? Would you like to play a critical role in helping the financial services industry become more operationally resilient?
The Team/Department
We are pleased to be offering an exciting opportunity for a talented, self-starting Lead Associate to join the Technology, Resilience and Cyber department (TRC) at the FCA. At a time of rapid technological change, new regulation, and increasing cyber threats, you will have the opportunity to work in the public interest as part of a dynamic team in an exciting, dynamic area of regulation.

The successful candidate will work on technology and cyber resilience related matters across regulated firms, predominantly within the Insurance and Retail sectors within financial services, providing technical expertise and advice to frontline FCA supervisors. TRC’s role is to understand firms’ current and planned use of technology, identify and assess potential harm and risk to the market and promote good practice by clarifying our expectations and acting when necessary. This includes seeking to minimise the impact on consumers and markets when risks crystallise. This role will allow you to demonstrate your specialist expertise in operational resilience, including in service continuity, mapping and testing, change, third-party and physical environment management, and to leverage this expertise to support the FCA objectives.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting the FCA’s view on the operational resilience of specific high priority portfolios in the Insurance and Retail sectors using the FCA’s Assessment Framework
  • Ensuring the delivery of high-quality assessments and recommendations on prioritised firms’ operational resilience capabilities and any remediation required
  • Supporting TRC’s engagement with the relevant supervision teams, ensuring they are getting excellent specialist support on aspects of Technology, Operational and Cyber Resilience
  • Acting as an SME for Operational Resilience across the department, the FCA, and externally
  • Leading and supporting strategic analysis of operational incidents in your portfolio from e.g. cyber attacks or technology disruptions
  • Taking part in technical engagement with external stakeholders including authorities such as PRA, Bank of England (BoE), HMT, National Cyber Security Centre ( NCSC) and Information Commissioners Office (ICO), and with senior firm representatives (e.g. CISO, CIO)
