Paralegal (18 Month FTC)


Requirements of the role

Responsible for supporting senior casework officers in the Investigations and Enforcement Team progressing legally and/or factually complex cases to ensure that the Bar Standards Board (BSB)’s investigation and disciplinary functions operate fairly and efficiently.

Performing discrete tasks to assist in the investigation of complex allegations, such as taking witness statements and collating evidence,

Providing paralegal support in the largest and complex cases under investigation or which are before the disciplinary tribunal or appeals to the High Court on appeal,

Acting as a point of contact with witnesses and those we regulate to ensure that all correspondence is dealt with efficiently and effectively,

Monitoring and acting proactively upon matters arising in cases which require temporary oversight.

Measure of Success

Through effective investigatory and regulatory knowledge, the post holder ensures that in relation to their own work:

Enforcement decision makers and senior staff are provided with timely and reliable support in progressing cases

Appropriate, timely and proactive action is taken on issues arising from casework with relevant staff appraised of developments

All systems supporting the enforcement procedures are kept up to date, including the Case Management System, standard letters and external information

The written work of the job holder is of a high quality, accurate and audience appropriate requiring minimal editing

The job holder takes a positive and flexible approach to the work, with commitment to delivering work of high quality

Positive user and colleague feedback is received about the work with the emphasis on fairness and efficiency

The confidence of the public and profession in the efficacy and effectiveness of the BSB’s enforcement functions is maintained without any unnecessary damage to the reputation of the BSB

The job holder will take a proactive approach to personal development, supporting the BSB to grow and develop as a strong and sustainable regulator
