Ofgem
The energy regulator for Great Britain, https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/about-us/working-ofgem
Requirements of the role
This is your chance to be part of the fight to deliver a faster, smarter, and greener energy future. Ofgem is looking for a Policy Advisor for Transmission Acceleration to join us and help shape how major infrastructure is delivered in support of Net Zero.
Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers – especially vulnerable people.
We’re offering a permanent role with the chance to work on some of the most high-impact policy challenges facing the UK’s energy system. This is an exciting opportunity to support innovative approaches to accelerating electricity transmission investment while building your career in public policy. You’ll work in a collaborative team environment where your contributions will help shape key frameworks and incentives for future infrastructure.
Job description
As a Policy Advisor, you’ll contribute to the design and implementation of new regulatory tools and support the development of competitive frameworks that will influence how major transmission projects are brought forward. This role offers a rare opportunity to work across complex and high-profile issues that sit at the centre of our Net Zero mission. You’ll also engage directly with industry stakeholders, government departments and senior internal colleagues to inform decision-making and policy direction.
We’re looking for someone with strong analytical and communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for making an impact through policy. You’ll be confident handling complex topics and synthesising evidence to inform decisions that are technically sound and publicly accountable.
This role sits within our flexible resourcing model, which means you’ll have the chance to broaden your skills by working across other key projects, as needed. You’ll also benefit from a positive work culture that champions flexibility, inclusion and personal development as well as civil service pension benefits, generous leave and hybrid working.
We have a critical purpose to develop a policy that supports accelerated delivery of electricity transmission infrastructure, a mission that sits at the heart of the UK’s energy transition. You’ll help drive progress in how we plan, assess and regulate network investment, supporting innovative, cost-effective solutions that meet consumers’ needs today and tomorrow.
