Policy Manager

Ofcom

Making communications work for everyone, https://careers.ofcom.org.uk/

Requirements of the role

Senior Associates in the Broadcasting and Media Group contribute to or lead a wide range of projects. At any one time you could be writing a report about the performance of public service broadcasters like the BBC and Channel 4, working on initiatives to make the broadcasting industry more representative and inclusive, shaping research into protecting audiences from harm, or assessing the impact of a new BBC service on its competitors.

Applicants should be aware that some of these roles may include viewing and discussing potentially distressing content and/or themes.
Ofcom is committed to safeguarding our colleagues who undertake this type of work. We endeavour to reduce exposure to distressing content, material, and/or themes wherever possible. Where this isn’t possible, we control the risk by ensuring that colleagues who are exposed to DCM are appropriately protected and supported. We offer a range of tailored support options, psychological screening assessments and access to specialist therapeutic support where required.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Problem solving: Identifying key questions, deciding how to answer them, and working with colleagues to develop solutions.
  • Writing: Taking the lead on producing clear and accurate written documents and other high-quality outputs for a range of audiences.
  • Project management: Leading on the creation and development of project plans, proactively identifying risks and issues, and collaborating with colleagues and teams from across Ofcom to deliver projects on time.
  • Stakeholder management: Developing and managing relationships with organisations, public bodies and other stakeholders, and representing Ofcom’s position at meetings.
  • Working on projects across the group: Contributing to a wide range of broadcast policy work, across the Broadcasting and Media Group.
