Senior Policy Lead (Retail Market Operations)

Ofgem

The energy regulator for Great Britain, https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/about-us/working-ofgem

Requirements of the role

The current energy market situation is unprecedented. The record increase and volatility in global gas prices has put the energy market under severe strain from several challenges like Energy Theft, and is putting upward pressure on customers’ energy bills. Now more than ever we need to go further and faster in pursuing the country’s climate goals, reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, ensure security of supply and keep the energy system on track to delivering Net Zero. Bold action is required, and we are looking for people to help us deliver a greener, fairer energy system. We are looking for candidates who thrive in an agile, diverse and fast-paced environment with an interest in delivering benefits for consumers, communities, or society.

Job description
The successful candidate will be deployed in the Markets Directorate in the Retail Market Operations team. This team covers a wide spectrum of policy issues for the entire energy industry – codes, energy theft, gas, electricity, DCC, data, security and the monitoring of smart-related consumer issues. The work not only enables future changes toward net zero, it addresses current challenges within the industry that directly affect the proper operations of the energy market.

The role will be to help drive forward both existing and new programmes of work to combat energy theft but also those that bolster our existing engagement strategies with the Smart Energy Code and the Retail Energy Code. As such you will work in an agile team which has numerous and varied responsibilities and requires a mixture of practical skills and experience, including: policy assessment and development, technical knowledge relating to industry codes and licence conditions, strong stakeholder engagement skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and finally experience in project management.
